NUVARING DEATHS

NuvaRing (ethinyl estradiol and etonogestrel) is a popular birth control device that is inserted into the vagina to provide month-long protection against unwanted pregnancy. The small ring releases a combination of ethinyl estradiol and etonogestrel as a “convenient” alternative to oral birth control pills.

While the manufacturers have suggested that the side effects of NuvaRing are similar to what women face with birth control pills, research has suggested that higher levels of estrogen may be provided by the device, causing women to face a potential increased blood clot risk with NuvaRing.

A number of NuvaRing deaths have been reported by otherwise healthy women who experienced blood clots that may not have occurred if they had used another form of birth control.

Lawsuits being pursued by our NuvaRing wrongful death lawyers for families throughout the United States allege that the manufacturer failed to provide adequate warnings for consumers or the medical community.

The drug makers also failed to conduct proper studies to better understand the potentially fatal effects of NuvaRing before they aggressively marketed the product as an alternative to established birth control pills.

In late 2011, an FDA study suggested that NuvaRing may increase the risk of blood clots by 56% compared to some older birth control pills. In addition, according to post-marketing adverse event reports submitted through the FDA’s MedWatch Program, physicians and families have reported a number of cases where women died from NuvaRing.
